Rain pours down on the windshield of her car. What we had was the best thing that ever happened in my life. I feel really bad that it has to end. He cant bring himself to look at her. Instead his eyes were fixed on the plate number of the car parked before them. He knew she was crying. He could see the tears from his peripheral. I used to have direction in my life, and now I feel like I don’t have any. I want to get it back. Ok. I understand. Im sorry you got derailed from your journey. He closes the car door behind him, and walked towards taft avenue. Rain poured down on his back. Ten steps later he knew he made a big mistake. He looks back to where she was parked, only to see her speed away. he stares blankly at the road in front of him. He sees her taking a right turn. then it hit him. He didn’t lose his direction. he was on the road to it. Rain poured down his eyes concealing his tears. An hour later he calls her. I don’t care where im headed. All I know is, I want to take this journey with you. We will have the ride of your lives. She sobs, breaking his heart.
Rain pours down the windshield of her car. Turn on the engine, step on the clutch, and slowly release it while stepping on the gas. Her voice had a hint of authority, and a lot of worry. He follows her instructions. The car jumps two feet forward, and the engine dies. Ugh!!! She sighs in disbelief. She has no patience in teaching. her mom is a principal, that’s why. Let’s do it again. Turn on the engine ..clutch.. then gas. The car jumps to a disappointing stop. She grabs her hair and stares at him. He lets out a boyish grin. Her eyes turn in response. Ugh!!! On the third try, he speeds up to third gear. She beams with pride. He in turn, cant get the smile off his face. I cant believe im driving. You just taught an idiot how to drive! Woohoooo! He steps on the gas and is now running 70 on third gear. Not too fast! Step on the brakes.. the brakes! oh no! clutch first then the brakes! the car screeches to a halt just a few feet away from a lamp post. They stare at each other, took in minutes of silence, then laughed to the top of their lungs. It’s not fair. From this day onward, every car ill get to drive will remind me of you. But thanks anyway. That was the idea. He turns the engine on, steps on the clutch, then slowly, on the gas. Their journey has just begun. They knew they would go a long way from there.
She leans on his shoulder as they sit on the beach, watching the sunset. The sun was at its magnificent best from the shores of nasugbu batangas. He didn’t want it to end. he takes in a large bite of the hotdog sandwich they bought a while ago. With your mouth full, he tells himself. it was the only way to keep himself from crying.
